I spent a wee bit of time on google today, trying to find out what to do in September with children-
Put in search terms like “things to do” Edinburgh September- and I didn’t get a nice simple site to show me- so I thought it would be useful to do a little research and find out what is happening month by month. And I am going to start this blog, this calendar of events in September since every one knows Edinburgh does all the festivals in August! We have mentioned children’s activities only as our accommodation is child-friendly- visit us at www.edinburgh-self-catering.org
(We have three bedrooms and can sleep six, and are close to the royal mile!)

September 2007:

Waterworld: This is the City's largest leisure pool where you and your family can venture onto the Flumes or Float through the River run, dodge the Water Cannons or play in the Waterfalls, feel the surf in the wave machine and, if that's all too much relax in the Lagoons or Spa pool. It’s about 0.9 miles from 27 Carlyle place

The Zoo http://www.historic-scotland.gov.uk/rsevents2007holyrood.pdf

Picnic at Holyrood park or Princess Street gardens: Always enjoyable in the right weather!

Sunday 30 September: Holyrood Archaeology Day
Discover life in the ‘Iron Age’ by meeting characters from the past and trying out skills from the period, you can spend all day and bring a packed lunch.
Meet: Holyrood Education Centre Time: Drop in between 11 am and 3 pm
http://www.historic-scotland.gov.uk/rsevents2007holyrood.pdf

Family bike ride 30th September 2007
http://www.bikeforall.net/events.php?dmy=30/09/2007&eid=157

Playhouse theatre:
The Adventures of Tintin- Tintin in Tibet: September 03- September 6th
Abba Mania: Friday September 07 2007
www.edinburgh-playhouse.co.uk

Scotland has its doors open policy in September 2007. Doors Open Days offer the chance to explore some of Scotland's most interesting buildings of every kind and age, all free of charge! At some you can enjoy a tour, live music or exhibition - or just look around at your own pace. Other sites offer special activities for children and young people. http://www.ehd.coe.int/sdx/jep/infos/infos.xsp?field=country&q=UKSC

Children at family days held at the museum:

The Edinburgh museum holds lots of family events:
http://www.cac.org.uk/venues/whatsonmotion.htm

Wanted to run the Edinburgh Seven Hills last week- Our new self catering house (www.edinburgh-self-catering.org) is near Carlton hill where it starts. So it would have been really handy. Jacob twisted his calf muscle the day before- so we missed out all those hills- Arthurs seat is the most amazing hill- this high jutting out (ex-volcanic??) mountain right in the middle of the city.
Last time we did the Seven Hills we were freezing- but you can get that in the middle of a Scotland summer. Felt like it was snowing as we used our hands and feet to manouevre up the mountain

Maree and I are going to check out the omni-theatre, we're near the playhouse too so that might be next weekend.

Maree has nearly finished furnishing the Edinburgh terrace, has lots of funky art deco furniture now as well as the almost obligatory modern beds.

Must find out more about accomodation for children, things to do in Edinburgh for children- it would be good to make Carlyle as family friendly as possible- it makes such a difference to those relaxing stays. Hopefully one week and we will be finished.

 Comments

Setting up a self catering terrace

Setting up a holiday rental. Not quite sure why we started this part of our lives. We tend to like to step outside the boundary of a normal conventional life. I wanted to risk all and buy a guest house- but luckily from a sanity perspective we decided to buy a house in Abbeyhill. Thinking about Edinburgh festival accomodation for us and for others we purchased in the central location of Edinburgh in Abbeyhill.

Really amazing spot close to Holyrood Palace- close to Meadowbank sports stadium, close to London road- and it seems to be happening there- but to be honest we have not had much time to enjoy it so far-

So much to do even now when we have bought it- so far we have registered as landlords, registered the domain name, developed the internet site www.edinburgh-self-catering.org played with adwords, learnt a little about search engine optimisation, replayed with the website- reconfigured our adwords- there's just this whole wide world out there we know nothing about.

Can't wait to explore all Edinburgh has to offer- and the accomodation is amazing- little bit of grass right in the middle of the city- able to fit a Sealy king size bed in for a real sleep-and room for all the children- we have four.

Anyway not sure where this blog is going- but hopefully it will go somewhere.
